My story, my mission, my motivation

Hi everyone,

Welcome to ActuaPlan.

ActuaPlan is a retirement planning tool powered by stochastic modeling (also known as monte carlo simulations). This powerful modeling technique allows us to capture elements that often hard to reflect in a single deterministic scenario. For example, large medical shocks, longevity risk (living longer than expected), sequence-of-returns risks (multiple years of market downturn), and more.

As an actuary, my day-to-day work deals with uncertainty. How much money should insurance company set aside to pay future claims? How much capital does it need to weather a 1-in-200 year event? Are recent changes in mortality rates random noise or a sustained trend? These are among the interesting questions that I work on.

With that background, I went looking for a good retirement planning tool in early 2025. Long story short, I couldn't find one that I felt good about. At first, I was planning to work on one on Excel. And then I thought, why keep it to myself? If it helps me, it can help others too.

So I built ActuaPlan.

As a math and coding nerd this project hits all the right notes. It is challenging, it requires deep thinking, and spent countless hours thinking about how to make retirement planning the right way.

I hope my work makes a meaningful contribution to this area (retirement planning). I welcome discussions on it, to make ActuaPlan something that is useful for everybody.
