About ActuaPlan
ActuaPlan is a retirement-planning tool built from the ground up to think in probabilities. Rather than a single point-estimate forecast, it models risk, uncertainty, and surprises that matter deeply when planning for decades ahead.
Why I built ActuaPlan
I’m a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). As a life actuary, I’ve explored many online retirement tools but often find them unsatisfactory overall to my use. Too many rely on a single‑point estimate and underplay variability from market risks and longevity. I wanted something that could give myself and others confidence in long‑term financial planning. So I resolved to build a tool that can help myself and others to make better financial decision. ActuaPlan is the result of that effort.
What makes ActuaPlan different
- Models thousands of market paths, capturing sequence-of-returns risk.
- Treats longevity as a distribution, not a single age.
- Accounts for irregular expenses like healthcare and long-term care.
- Compares withdrawal strategies and stress-tests spending.
- Shows ranges and probabilities, not just a single “answer”.
- Built for DIY planners and people who care about their financial planning.
On models and their limits
All models are simplified representations of reality, and ActuaPlan is no exception. It incorporates assumptions and judgments based on current knowledge and available data. No model is perfect, and there is always room for improvement. With that in mind, I’m committed to make continuous improvements to ActuaPlan, incorporating emerging research, market trends, legal changes and feedbacks from the users.
A note on responsibility
ActuaPlan is educational software. It is not financial, tax, legal or actuarial advice. Please use it as a guide, not a substitute for professional counsel.
