ActuaPlan Update v1.1 Sharing feature and Inflation model
October 12, 2025
TLDR
• 🔗 Sharing feature
• 📈 Revision to default inflation model and further enhancement
Hi everyone,
I've some exciting news to share.
1. Sharing feature
The sharing feature is now in beta! I often get questions about assumptions and advice from my friends, and the whole process could've been much smoother if I could view the plan directly!
What it does
- When you "share" a plan, the current state (input, results) is snapshot and published as a read-only version.
- Your original plan remains intact and you can further edit it, but the shared plan will not be updated.
- Anyone with the link can view the snapshot, and can "edit plan locally" on their side to make their own changes.
- Shared links do not allow editing of the original plan.
How to share
- On the navigation bar, click on "Share" button.
- Click on "Share Plan".
- Copy the generated link to share with others!
How to manage shared links
- On the navigation bar, click on "Plans" button.
- Go to "Shared Links" pill and see the list of links shared.
- Copy the link or remove/unpublish the shared plan.
Notes / caveats (beta stage)
- Future versions may have more UI changes.
- Feedback on usability, privacy, and sharing flow is welcome.
2. Revision of inflation model
Previously, the app used a static inflation projection (i.e. based on user input and used indefinitely into the future). This is rather simple and intuitive, but fails to consider the uncertainty and dynamics of inflation.
In reality, inflation too behaves somewhat like a stochastic process. It too correlates with different asset classes. A deterministic model cannot reflect these dynamics.
What changed
- The default model now uses a historical bootstrap approach (based on U.S. inflation data), similar to other default asset models.
- This introduces path variability in inflation, and correlation with other similarly bootstrapped assets.
- However, the raw bootstrap or resampling of historical inflation may overstate/understate the long-term trends depending on the historical periods used. Hence we recalibrated the expected mean of the inflation to be 2.3% based on various sources[1][2][3], slightly higher than Fed's 2% target.
How to tweak inflation rate for Pro user
- In the web app, open up advanced module: "Market Assumptions & Risks".
- Find Inflation model and click on drop-down for its distribution.
- Adjust the parameters based on your liking. As of now, the distribution is assumed to be independent from other asset classes under normal/student-t distribution.
Looking forward and feedback
I hope you find the sharing feature useful! I hope sharing plans will foster conversation, learning and better decision-making. As usual, I'm happy to receive any feedback and suggestions to further improve the tool. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly via the feedback button located at the bottom right of the ActuaPlan app.
